Canada's regulated gaming market — in numbers
Our home benchmark. Canada's legal online-gaming market is led by Ontario, the country's first open, competitive, privately-operated regulated market. Every figure below links to its official primary source.

Revenue by segment (FY2024–25)
| Segment | Gaming revenue | Amount wagered |
|---|---|---|
| Casino (slots, table, live) | C$2.4B | C$69.6B |
| Sports & event betting | C$724M | C$11.4B |
| Peer-to-peer poker | C$66M | C$1.7B |
Casino games dominate revenue; sports betting drives a big share of handle at a thinner margin. This split is exactly the kind of thing operators need instrumented — one number ("total wagered") hides very different economics underneath.

Channelization & players
A core goal of Ontario's market was channelization — moving players from unregulated offshore sites onto regulated ones. An AGCO/Ipsos study found 83.7% of Ontario online gamblers played on regulated sites, among the highest rates anywhere. Average spend per active account was C$308 per month in Q2 FY2024–25 (Jul–Sep 2024).

Beyond Ontario
Provincial lottery corporations (OLG in Ontario, and equivalents elsewhere) run their own online and land-based gaming. OLG alone returned C$2.2B in net profit to the province in FY2024–25, including a record C$378M from its own digital channel, across 30 casino facilities. From July 13, 2026, Alberta became Canada's second open, competitive online market (~22 sites at launch) — a sign Ontario's model is becoming the template.
